Leica in the Landscape– MARCH 27 – 31 2017 - PT. Reyes National Sea Shore, CA
Visit California’s bewitching Point Reyes National Seashore, and experience one of North America’s diversely beautiful, yet typically overlooked, coastal regions. This Leica Akademie North America landscape photography workshop offers four days of expert photography instruction, unique location insight, and relaxing accommodations.
Scope:
Throughout the workshop, guests will lodge at the Tomales Bay Resort, in Inverness, California. Overlooking the Tomales Bay shoreline, this “Cape Cod-style resort” will provide the group’s gathering place and subsequent starting point for each day’s adventure. Schedules will emphasize early-morning and late-afternoon light. During the evening, guests can relax; or process images and share with fellow students and workshop leaders.
Each day, workshop instructors will offer simple photographic topics for students to explore. Students may also request specific assignments. Throughout the day, the instructors will answer questions and provide the instruction necessary for students to expand their individual skills. In-field feedback as well as end-of-day critiques will help students discover their unique, creative, vision. An Adobe Photoshop Lightroom session is also included.
Morning and afternoon excursions will explore the highly-diverse visual landscapes of: wild coastal beaches, headlands, and bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean; Drakes Bay, historic lighthouses, and hidden estuaries and lagoons. We’ll travel narrow, eucalyptus-scented back roads, discovering pastoral scenes of historic dairy farms and their timeless rural surroundings.
California’s Point Reyes National Seashore is a hidden gem. Situated North of San Francisco, beautiful Tomales Bay separates Point Reyes Peninsula from the mainland. This rich photographic treasure is often overlooked—even by Californians. March’s Winter/Spring atmosphere provides a moody, diverse, backdrop for landscape photography. Sometimes sunny, sometimes somber and desolate, sometimes blanketed with a windy, chilling, fog: this region offers a broad range of light and mood. The remote, coastal town of Inverness rests just minutes from the peninsula, rewarding photographers with it’s own inspiring subjects.

Who should attend this workshop?
Photographers of all skill levels are welcome to attend this workshop. Attendees should be familiar with the basic functions of their camera and be comfortable with controlling the shutter speed, aperture and ISO controls.
Use of Leica photographic equipment is not required. A selection of Leica products will be available for your use during the event.
Workshop Philosophy and Group Size:
Leica Akademie believes people learn best in small groups — outside of the classroom. We strive to tailor instruction to specific individual needs, and we believe casual conversation often brings the biggest revelations.
This workshop is limited to 10 photographers. The small class size is designed to maximize individualized learning through effective instructor-student interaction.
