FOCAL POINTS: WOMEN ADVANCING THE APERTURE
Group exhibition of contemporary female photographers
February 7 – April 25, 2020
It is always curious to me how clients discover my work. Last October, I received the most eloquent introduction email, written with serious artistic flair from a curator, Kathrine Page, about how she discovered my work, (suggested by a collector) and went through my website to choose 5 images for an exciting show at the Delaware Contemporary.
“The exhibition of primarily black and white photography aims to present images representing a diverse spectrum of subject matter that pushes the boundaries of photo-imaging and technique. By manipulating light, focal points, shutter speed, filters, apertures, and subject material, the photographs will reveal and articulate the persistence of the female voice through the visual language of the camera lens creating visible shifts in illusion and perception between abstraction and representation. I believe your work would punctuate the exhibition in profound ways.” Katherine Page
Three of the 5 chosen were Leica images. Each image from a different theme of work: fine art/shadow series, portraits including humanitarian work from Kenya and the amazing team of doctors I’ve been documenting since 2008. (A few Leica Blog stories about the team OPKIDS)
LEICA IMAGES:
Barra – NYC 2013 (fine art / shadow series)
Nelson George – NYC 2010 (portraits)
Sio Port Woman – OPKIDS Clinic 2012 (humanitarian for Operation International Kids Mission to Kenya)
The powerful theme of the show surrounding the 100thyear anniversary of the 19th amendment resonated with my south Texan upbringing. A photography show dedicated to photographic technique and the feminine eye is a rare occasion. I happily reserved an Amtrak train from Penn station to the Focal Points opening last week. Along with the fact, that two dear friends drove down from NYC and experienced the amazing space/artist studios/shows at the Delaware Contemporary, took me to dinner and drove me home, the end to a wonderful art inspired road-trip.
The show will end with an art auction: Art & Couture: A Contemporary Centennial which is scheduled for April 25, 2020. All of the images will be available for sale at that time.
