We’re Now Leica Society International!

Founded in 1968, our organization has grown into the most robust community and gathering place for Leica photographers, collectors, and enthusiasts in over 200 countries.

We announced this important change at our recent Annual Meeting in Dublin, Ireland and are excited to share it with you here:

We’re now Leica Society International!

Known as LSI in abbreviated form, we also have a new logo to mark this milestone.

We have gone by different names since our founding as Leica Collector’s International. Many joined our organization when we were known as Leica Historical Society of America or most recently, LHSA – The International Leica Society.

For fifty years and counting, we continue to be a meeting place for Leica users as well as collectors, and greatly contribute to preserving the rich history of Leica cameras and gear. Times have changed since 1968 and we have changed, too. What was once a camera born in film has transitioned to the digital age; what was once a small group of enthusiasts has emerged as the meeting point for Leica passion, photography, and community. As the saying goes, the more things change the more they stay the same. The old has become new again. Now together, both analogue and digital reflect the past and the future. Similarly, Leica Society International embraces the past to better understand the future of photography.

 The evolution of our organization is rooted in the firm belief that no matter the context, the generational shifts, or the changes that challenge us, each of our personal Leica journeys continue. Our new name and logo serve as a bridge between where we started, where we are now, and where we’re going.

United by Leica, a brand representing the pinnacle of engineering and art, our dedication is unwavering to continue to:

  • Inspire Leica photographers of every skill level;

  • Preserve Leica’s rich history;

  • Educate members; and

  • Support the next generation of photographers

Our community of members is the heart of Leica Society International. Knowing that the Leica journey is most meaningful when the experiences are shared with friends, we all understand that similar to Leica cameras themselves, the community is more than the sum of its parts.

We at Leica Society International appreciate your loyalty and support over the years, and for keeping our legacy alive. Because of you, we are able to publish our acclaimed Viewfinder quarterly journal, extend our enriching photographic education programs, sponsor deserving photographers through our Photo Grant program, and digitize the Leica historical archives. We have much more planned and are excited to have you help shape the next chapter of our organization as Leica Society International.

Thank you for your commitment to the excellence that is Leica and for making Leica Society International part of your journey as we grow, change, and honor the past while embracing the future, together.
